The Finger Lakes Regional Economic Development Council will have its first meeting of 2012 on Wednesday at Monroe Community College, an Empire State Development spokesperson says.

A time for the meeting hasn't been set yet.

Ultimately, the Finger Lakes council will be working to secure state economic development aid, as will regional economic development council across New York.  Governor Andrew Cuomo has included $200 million in competitive economic development grants in his proposed 2012-13 budget. Of that, $130 million would be capital funding and the remaining $70 million would be for tax credits. Cuomo hasn't publicly said how that funding will be awarded.

Some of the other regional councils have already met this year. When the Western New York Regional Economic Development Council - which covers Buffalo - met on January 31, its members discussed their objectives for the year and the status of several projects that got funding during the 2011 round.

During the last round, the Finger Lakes council received $68.8 million in economic development benefits. Its neighboring councils received much more: Western New York $100.3 million and Central New York $103.7 million. - Jeremy Moule

The Monroe Community College Board of Trustees will meet at 8:30 Thursday morning. The trustees are still discussing the Sibley Building lease for the Damon Center and are trying to decide whether to move the Damon Center to the Kodak site on State Street. The college hasn't said whether those topics are on Thursday's agenda, but it issued a statement saying the trustees will enter into an executive session, which is not open to the public. The trustees will meet in the Administrative Building (Building 1), 1000 East Henrietta Road.  - Tim Louis Macaluso
